Hello Purple Nebula!
about 6 years ago – Fri, Feb 16, 2018 at 06:48:20 PM

The new Purple Nebula d6, a follow-up of the Blue version included in your rewards, has finally arrived and is available as add-on through BackerKit. They look AMAZING!

You can also find a short video on the Facebook Page for Constellation Dice.

The deadline for submitting your surveys is Feb.25th, after which you might not be able to add-on more dice, since the plan is to complete the first round of shipments before the end of the month. Right now, only 100 backers need to proceed. If you encounter any issue please contact the BackerKit help desk or send me a private message through Kickstarter.

I'm here to help :)

Thank you for your collaboration!

Shipping... twice, it's all right!

Sky's Edge d6, the way they were meant to be.
Sky's Edge d6, the way they were meant to be.

Sky's Edge are an exclusive, never seen before original design: semi-translucent with silver glitter, they feature 5 carefully balanced layers meant to reproduce the evanescent border between our world and outer space. This was quite hard to obtain.

The last few weeks have been very intense... but good things come to those who wait, and we have finally managed to get closer to what the Sky's Edge was supposed to look like. Unfortunately, despite all efforts the factory was not able to manufacture the final version before their February holidays (which are one month long).

The news came like a brick wall, expecially since I would really like this campaign to be fulfilled before launching another. Everything else is packed, and a batch of shiny new Purple Nebula d6 has left the factory a couple days ago, so I have decided to finally send your surveys for extra dice and deliver first what is available, thus releasing some pressure.

.

If you don't plan to get any add-ons, you can safely ignore the BackerKit surveys, as you've already expressed your preference regarding the Eclipse d10 through Kickstarter itself.
You will receive two shipments: the first will be dispatched around the end of February, the second as soon as the Sky's Edge are ready, in April 2018.

If you would like to get more of the backer's only Silver / Gold painted Eclipse d10, or the glow-in-the-dark version of the same, please don't wait too long as they were made in very limited quantities (less than 150 per flavour) and you might miss them.

Those of you who reserved their Eclipse d10 in the previous survey will find them in BackerKit. You are free to remove them if you changed your mind, but doing so you would loose any discount that was applied and they would become available to other backers. Please add-on yourself as many Sky's Edge or Purple Nebula d6 as you choose.

If you would like to get one of the last 200 remaining full Voyager Edition sets (white painted only) they are available in an upgraded bundle including an Eclipse d10 in the same color. Any set you are not taking will likely disappear in the next campaign.

To thank you for your patience, you will also be allowed to pre-order the full Sky's Edge set at a slightly lower price than what you'll see in the upcoming campaign.

In addition, I got you a little present! All of you will receive one of each of these lovely d6, representing a full moon night and a sunny winter day.

Please welcome the Moonlit Night and Winter Day d6 couple

The surveys will be online for two weeks before your credit cards will be charged.
Please double check your address, since the data was imported in late December.

Thanks for your support!

Painting the sky
about 6 years ago – Thu, Jan 18, 2018 at 11:50:59 PM

While manufacturing of the purple Nebula d6 is underway — and, by popular demand, they will be painted a bright silver — the Sky's Edge required extra care to be made just right.

In order to display the silver glitter, and to make the brightest face appear darker when reading the dice, the layers are semi-transparent. This made it very difficult to calibrate the colors, because transparency changes the perceived brightness. In addition, the factory apparently used a darker palette than the one specified, so even if the prototype was still quite good, it appeared a bit dull and a little unsaturated in normal light.

Because of this, the gradient wasn't very evident, making it seem like if only 3 layers were used (like in the very first version) and the brightest one was a lot brighter than the one beside, so I have asked the factory to amend these issues before production.

Despite providing also more exact instructions, such as which colors to keep, which to change and how, something went lost in translation... let's see the third prototype:

There is a lot of sky in this version. A little too much! But the colors are more vivid.
As the saying goes, "the truth lies in the middle". This is what I am expecting now:

Unfortunately it won't be feasible to manufacture also a test batch of the full Sky's Edge set, as doing that now would be over expensive and delay the delivery of the d6. The Sky's Edge set will be launched instead in a proper campaign, along with other new space flavours (simply follow Gio Lasar Design to be notified of the launch before anyone else).

Your BackerKit surveys are still on hold as the manual data entry for the reservations took longer than expected, but I am working towards sending them in a few days.

And now, for something completely different...

Early last month I have been invited by Kickstarter to join this month's Make/100 initiative, for campaigns offering limited edition rewards capped at 100 backers only. That's something hard to do with dice, but Gio Lasar Design is about exploring creativity, and I have a slew of projects waiting for their chance to bring you some joy.

Since I am now focusing on delivering your beautiful Constellation Dice and Sky's Edge, I have decided to contribute something simple but cool that's almost done. Preview it here!

Blue and Purple Nebulae

The prototypes for the new Purple Nebula fudge d6 are here, and I would like to show you how they compare to the original Blue Nebula included in your rewards.

Please note the purple prototypes were painted silver (which is not very readable) while the final version will be painted white. I am still entering data on the BackerKit platform so you didn't receive a link yet, but that will be happening soon.

Happy New Year, everyone!

After the success of the Sky's Edge concept, I've been working on the design for a full mold for space-themed sets, concentrating on readability and graphical balance. The Sky's Edge full set will be the first in a series of flavours, and will be available for pre-orders very soon.

Merry Christmas :)
